कैनबरा। ऑस्ट्रेलिया के प्रधानमंत्री एंथनी अल्बानीज ने घोषणा की, कि सोशल मीडिया कंपनियों की बच्चों की सुरक्षा करने की सामाजिक जिम्मेदारी है, क्योंकि संसद ने 16 वर्ष से कम उम्र के बच्चों को उनके प्लेटफॉर्म का उपयोग करने से प्रतिबंधित करने वाला कानून पारित किया है।
अल्बानीज ने कहा कि 16 साल से कम उम्र के किसी भी बच्चे को सोशल मीडिया तक पहुंचने से प्रतिबंधित करने वाला दुनिया का पहला कानून युवा ऑस्ट्रेलियाई बच्चों की सुरक्षा सुनिश्चित करेगा।
उन्होंने कहा कि हमारे बच्चों की सुरक्षा सुनिश्चित करना प्लेटफॉर्म की सामाजिक जिम्मेदारी होगी यही उनकी प्राथमिकता में शामिल होगा।
देर रात सीनेट ने सरकार के कानून के पक्ष में मतदान किया। यह कानून संसद के निचले सदन, प्रतिनिधि सभा में शुक्रवार सुबह प्रक्रियात्मक सत्र में दूसरी बार पारित हुआ, जिससे 12 महीनों में कानून लागू होने का मार्ग प्रशस्त हुआ।
सरकार ने यह निर्दिष्ट नहीं किया है कि नए कानून कैसे लागू किए जाएंगे। कानून के तहत, सोशल मीडिया कंपनियां जो 16 वर्ष से कम आयु के बच्चों को अपने प्लेटफॉर्म का उपयोग करने से रोकने के लिए उचित कदम उठाने में विफल रहती हैं, उन्हें 50 मिलियन ऑस्ट्रेलियाई डॉलर ($32.5 मिलियन) तक का जुर्माना भरना पड़ेगा।
अल्बानीज ने कहा कि हम यह तर्क नहीं देते कि इसका कार्यान्वयन एकदम सही होगा, ठीक वैसे ही जैसे 18 साल से कम आयु के लोगों के लिए शराब पर प्रतिबंध का मतलब यह नहीं है कि 18 साल से कम आयु के लोगों को कभी भी शराब नहीं मिलेगी, लेकिन हम जानते हैं कि ऐसा करना सही है।
प्रतिबंध के पारित होने पर प्रतिक्रिया देते हुए, मेटा – फेसबुक और इंस्टाग्राम की मूल कंपनी ने कहा कि वह संसद के माध्यम से जिस गति से आगे बढ़ी, उससे चिंतित है।
कंपनी के प्रवक्ता ने एक बयान में कहा कि हम उस प्रक्रिया से चिंतित हैं, जिसमें साक्ष्यों पर उचित रूप से विचार किए बिना, आयु-उपयुक्त अनुभव सुनिश्चित करने के लिए उद्योग पहले से क्या कर रहा है और युवा लोगों की आवाजों पर विचार किए बिना कानून को जल्दबाजी में पारित कर दिया गया।
